Engineering Manager

Located in our beautiful Woodridge, IL facility and reporting to the Division Manager, of our PMT Nuclear division.  In this senior role, the Engineering Manager will need to review customer specifications to determine conceptual designs for equipment as part of the bid process. 

This could entail analyzing a fan to determine the maximum allowable operating pressure, analyzing an air handling unit to validate the unit is seismically rugged & specify the anchorage details to mount it to the floor, or determine the allowable nozzle loads on a cooling coil. In this role, you will manage project and work directly with our engineers and designers to ensure that the equipment is properly designed to withstand all design loads.  The Structural Engineer will have to prepare formal reports that will be submitted to customers for review/approval.  



  • Provide technical expertise in support of generating detailed proposals for submittal to clients; assist in generating technical proposals; assist in determining cost inputs for the proposals.

  • Review and interpret customer specifications / RFQs in order to generate conceptual designs of equipment, including identification and selection of any sub-components that would be needed.

  • Provide engineering direction to the drafting department so that they can generate detailed design drawings, review/comment on the design drawings, interface with customers to resolve comments / questions on the design drawings.

  • Provide oversight in the generation of test procedures, provide technical support as needed when functional testing of equipment is being performed, and generate / review test reports.

  • Review customer specifications to ensure PMT designed equipment conforms to specification requirements.

  • Regular interface with customers, occasionally including site meetings and equipment walk downs.

  • Determine initial project schedules as part of the proposal phase.

  • Generate and review of calculations / reports.

  • Provide engineering support / technical expertise for ongoing projects as needed.

  • Work within the requirements of the PMT 10 CFR 50 Appendix B Quality Assurance Program (ASME NQA-1 Program).



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, a Master’s Degree preferred.

  • 10 to 15 years of work experience in HVAC is mandatory.

  • PE License is a plus, but not required.

  • Understanding of nuclear power / experience working with nuclear power plants is NOT required; the equipment we design and manufacture is the same as you would encounter in an industrial application; we are not looking for a nuclear design engineer.

  • Must be a US citizen and be able to gain unescorted access to nuclear power plants.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication and HVAC equipment manufacturing is highly desirable.

  • Basic understanding of welding, machining tolerances, and national codes and standards is highly desirable.

  • Experience working within any type of Quality Management System (e.g. ISO 9001) is highly desirable.

  • FMEA experience a plus, but not required.

  • Experience / knowledge of Commercial Grade Item Dedication is a plus, but not required.

  • Must be willing to occasionally travel out of state.

  • Ability to understand and interpret customer specifications and national codes and standards (e.g. ASME, IEEE, etc.).
